 SUBJECT Biology
 ADMISSIONS Students must have studied GCSE Science (double award) or GCSE Biology and preferably achieved at least a grade B.
 SYLLABUS OCR
 COURSE The modules studied go onto more depth on many of the concepts that have been covered in GCSE. There are two practical assessment modules throughout the A2 course. The student will be examined on three different skills and this will be completed during the two year course.
 AS UNITS

F211 - Cells, exchange and transport: cell structure, cell membranes, celldivision, cell diversity and cellular organisation, exchange surfaces and breathing, transport in animals and transport in plants.

F212 - Molecules, biodiversity, food and health: biological molecules, nucleic acids, enzymes, diet and food production, health and disease, biodiversity, classification, evolution and maintaining biodiversity.

F213 - Practical skills in biology 1: there are 3 types of tasks provided by the exam board which will be completed during lesson time.

 A2 UNITS

F214 - Communication, homeostasis and energy: communication nerves and hormones, excretion, photosynthesis, respiration.

F215 - Control genomes and environment: cellular control, meiosis and variation, cloning in plants and animals, biotechnology, genomes and gene technologies, ecosystems, populations and sustainability, plants responses, animal responses and animal behaviour.

F216 - Practical skills in biology 2: there are 3 types of tasks provided by the exam board which will be completed during lesson time.

 ASSESSMENT There are 4 written papers and 2 internal assessments.
F211 - written paper, 1 hour long (15% of A2)
F212 - written paper, 1 hour 45 minutes long (25% of A2)
F213 - internal assessment (10% of A2)
F214 - written paper, 1 hour long (15% of A2)
F215 - written paper, 1 hour 45 minutes long (25% of A2)
F216 - internal assessment (10% of A2)
