GCSE MODERN FOREIGN LANGUAGE

All pupils must choose to study at least one Modern Foreign Language to GCSE level, either French or Spanish.  Able linguists are encouraged to choose both languages by selecting the second language as one of their free choices.

With the recent massive expansion of communication and transport, the need to learn a foreign language has become greater.  More than ever before, young people are aware of the usefulness of learning a language - be it for business or leisure.

GCSE FRENCH AND GCSE SPANISH

Both courses enable pupils to understand, speak about and write about a variety of topics, including everyday activities; personal and social life; the world around us; the world of work; the international world.

During Year 11 pupils present a selection of essays as coursework (25% of the final mark) and the remaining 75% comes from exams on speaking, listening and reading comprehension.

During Year 10 there are usually school trips to France and Spain, giving pupils the opportunity to obtain first-hand experience of the language and culture of these countries.
