GCSE ICT

ICT for GCSE involves the use of computers to communicate and solve problems.  The course covers four units:

Unit 1 covers computer systems, communications technology and information management.

Unit 2 covers practical skills and understanding relating to the use of ICT applications.
Unit 3 covers ICT applications, systems, networks and computer.

Unit 4 covers problem solving using ICT.

60% of the marks are awarded for project work.  The project work consists of three projects:

  1. Communication
  2. Modelling
  3. Designing, implementing and testing a system for others to use involving two or more types of software

The first two are minor projects and provide 15% each with the major project providing 30% of the total marks for GCSE.  The minor projects will be completed in Year 10 and the major in Year 11.

The course will provide a suitable background for A level Computing but it is not a formal requirement.
